Why Packaging Matters


         When developing a new product the amount of time and effort that will be required for packaging is often under estimated .   Packing matters and here are just some of the reasons why .

1. It is an important component of cost
2. It determines or influences shelf life
3. Intended form of display
4. Identifies the product
5. Protects the product from damage or contamination from micro-organisms ,
    air, moisture and toxins .
6. Protection during transportation and shipping
7. Contains or keeps product together
8 Can determine how its consumed ( eg: beverages )
9. Stacking and storage to optimize shelf space
10. Printed information
11. Possible “green” attribute if recyclable materials used
12. Set tone for the product - conveys image and personality of the product
13. Conveys brand identity
14. Can be a new way to use product
15. Can evoke emotion
16. Can end up being the image icon for the brand and therefore trademark
     protected
